Virgil Pruitt, Jr., 82, of Spartanburg, died Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born April 10, 1928, in Spartanburg County, he was the son of the late Virgil, Sr. and Ollie Pearl Tillotson Pruitt. Mr. Pruitt was a retired sheet metal worker with B&L Mechanical Co. of Greenville. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and of the Baptist faith. Survivors include a sister, Thelma Pettit and her husband Bill of Spartanburg; a longtime special friend and companion, Jeanette Dotson of Boiling Springs; four nieces, Peggy Melton Linder, Sandra Roach Smith, Jane Pettit Bradley, and Ann Pettit Peeler; three nephews, David Roach, Jerry Melton, and Ray Pettit; adoptive grandchildren, Brandon Parris, Madison Parris, and Rollins Cattrell. He was predeceased by sisters and brothers, Millie Ruth Melton, Nelleen Roach, and Glenn Pruitt; and a nephew, Roy L. Roach, Jr. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday, February 24, 2011 at Floyd's North Church Street Chapel. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, February 25, 2011 in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Jason Lee.
