Violet Pender Cudd, 91, of Wilmington, NC, formerly of Spartanburg, died Thursday, January 27, 2011 at New Hanover Medical Center. Born January 26, 1920 in Spartanburg County, she was the daughter of the late Clyde Defore and Loree Gwinn Pender and wife of the late Otha Preston Cudd Sr. She was a member of Morningside Baptist Church and was a laboratory technician with Fairforest Finishing Plant. Since 2004, Violet made her home at Spring Arbor of Wilmington where she made many new friends. She received loving care from the caregivers and staff at Spring Arbor. Survivors include a daughter, Donna Young and her husband David of Wilmington, NC; five grandchildren, Meredith Berry of Charlotte, NC, Bronwyn Caldwell, Phyllis Powers, Ashley Young all of Spartanburg, and Sheridan Krauth of Greenville; ten great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; a brother, Lemuel Pender of Spartanburg; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Otha P. Cudd, Jr.; a grandson, Phillip Cudd; and a sister, Elizabeth Bradburn. Visitation will be 1:00 - 2:15 p.m. Monday, January 31, 2011 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 2:30 p.m. in the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Kirk H. Neely and the Rev. Mike McGee. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Morningside Baptist Church "Golden Tones", 897 S. Pine Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302. The family is at their respective homes.
