Vincent Caggiano Jr.

Vincent G. Caggiano, Jr., 89, of Gaffney, SC, slipped peacefully into his eternal rest on Saturday, November 28, 2015. He was born July 11, 1926, in Elm, New Jersey to the late Vincent G. and Antoinetta Mangini Caggiano, and moved to South Carolina in the 1940's where he became one of the founding directors and President of Sunny Slope Farms of South Carolina, and was a co-owner of Sunny Slope Farms of New Jersey, one of the largest and most successful family owned peach farms in the United States. One of the founders of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gaffney, South Carolina, he was a devout Catholic. He served as a member of, and President in 1975, of the National Peach Council. He was a member and chairman of the S.C. Land Resources Commission, and was the only state chairman to serve a four year term other than E.C. McArthur, who served the same at its inception. He served as a member of the S.C. Highway Commission, and for more than 40 years, a member of the Cherokee County Soil and Water Conservation District, and in recent years as a Commissioner Emeritus. He also served on the Board of Visitors for Clemson University and the Medical University of South Carolina. He was predeceased by the light of his life, the late Sarah Katherine Sadie" Collins Caggiano; his first born child, Vincent G. Caggiano III; his sister Mildred Ruggero; and his brothers, Anthony, John, Dominic, Louis, and Alfred Caggiano. A loving husband, father and grandfather he is survived by his children Joseph P. Caggiano of the home; Franklin B. and Sharon Caggiano of Columbia, SC, Katie, Franklin, Annie and Ashley; Dr. Anthony V. and Janice Caggiano of Gainesville, FL, Kelly and Anthony (Vincie and Luca); Linda A. Caggiano of Rock Hill, SC, Bonnie Kate Warren, Will Reeves; Alfred A. and Dorothy Caggiano of Granger, IN, Jennifer Michie, Emily Johnson (Nora); Christopher J. and Lisa Caggiano of Spartanburg, SC, Christopher, Maryanna, Nicholas, and Lily; Sarah C. and Carlo Tajana of Gaffney, SC, Leila, Annabella and Sophia; and grandson, Vincent G. IV and Tina Caggiano (Isabella and Vinny); and numerous nieces and nephews. The Rosary Service will be recited at 5:30 PM Thursday, December 3, 2015, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307, with visitation following 6:00-8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11:00 AM Friday, December 4, 2015, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church by The Rev. Michael McCafferty. Entombment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Heritage Chapel Mausoleum, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 205 Sams Street, Gaffney, SC 29340. The family is at the home.
