Vic Abernathy of Spartanburg, age 70, passed away unexpectedly at home on March 28, 2023. He was the loving husband of Betty (GiGi), married 52 years; Daughters, Suzanne Lawson, Son-in-Law Bryan Lawson and precious grandson, Walker, the sunshine of his life. Surviving mother, Doris Abernathy; Brothers, Wayne, Randy and Karsten. Predeceased by father, Douglas Abernathy and sister, Teresa Sloan. Vic was a loving uncle to his many nephews and nieces.
Vic worked as an industrial engineer for many years, traveling with Betty to many countries. He later did home improvement contracting which was his true passion.
Having been a member of First Baptist Church of Spartanburg for 40 years, he had recently attended Cedar Spring Baptist Church for the last several years, as his grandson wanted all the family together on Sunday morning.
When not working, Vic enjoyed vacations in Florida, deep sea fishing, swimming and constructing model train table for Walker, his grandson. Always attending ball games and looking for new trains for Walker. He had a talent for maintaining a well-kept yard for everyone to enjoy.
Vic was a loving, kind person who had a great compassion for others. He never kept a long story short. Having a loud laugh and never meeting a stranger, his life and countenance touched the lives of many. He will be forever in our hearts and thoughts, but knowing we will be with him again is what sustains us.
