Vernon Galphin Vaughan, 80, of Boiling Springs, SC formerly of Greenville, died Sunday, December 12, 2010, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born March 27, 1930 in Carlton, GA, he was the son of the late Vernon Galphin Vaughan, Sr. and Lillian Webb Vaughan. He was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a U.S. Army veteran of the Koran Conflict. He worked in Human Resources with Fiber Industries, Michelin USA (manager), Reliance Electric (director) and Rexam (director). He also worked in Human Resource Management from 1955-1995 with several local companies including Lockheed Aircraft, Standard Pressed Steel, and Celanese Corporation until he ultimately founded and operated Vaughan & Associates, a local human resource development firm. Mr. Vaughan was a member of First Baptist Church of North Spartanburg, where he was a deacon, a member of the New Beginnings Sunday School Class and a former choir member. He was a member of Personnel Associations. He married his wife of 57 years, Patricia Prewitt Vaughan, in New York City's Rockefeller Center on NBC's Bride and Groom program. Additional survivors include two daughters, Gloria (Larry) Whitfield of Anderson and Victoria (Rich) Vasey of Greenville; five grandchildren, Justin David Reif, Evan Christopher Reif, Tyler Case Richardson, Eden Brooke Richardson, and Ashley Kate (Tony Nigro) Whitfield; two great-grandchildren, McKenzie Rion Richardson and Braxton Cole Nigro; and a brother, Kenneth Elwood (Geraldine) Vaughan of Poquoson, VA. He was predeceased by three brothers, William Chester Vaughan, Rollie Alexander Vaughan, and Ollie Scott Vaughan. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at First Baptist Church of North Spartanburg, conducted by Rev. Dr. Michael S. Hamlet and Rev. Ken Mayfield. The family will receive friends following the service at the Church. Burial with no committal service will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
