Vernon Ivester

Vernon George "Vern" Ivester, 69, of Boiling Springs, was called home by his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, February 24, 2010, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born May 12, 1940, in Clinton, SC, he was the son of the late Arzo R. and Mattie Bell Smith Ivester. He began working for Winn Dixie when he was 16 years old and retired from Winn Dixie in 2005. During his career he also worked for Britt-Clary Brokerage Company of Greenville, SC, where many friendships were established and have continued. He was a longstanding member of Boiling Springs First Baptist Church and the Bill Howell Sunday School Class, St. John's Masonic Lodge #333, Scottish Rite, and the Hejaz Shriners. Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 51 years, Angela Clements Ivester; his four accomplished daughters of whom he was most proud, Cristi I. Seay and husband Mike of Boiling Springs, Connie I. McDerby and husband Clifton of Houston, TX, Cathy M. Ivester of Columbia, and Kim I. Bigach and husband Bruce of York; five granddaughters, Abby S. Fowler, Corie Seay, Aden Seay, Shealy Bigach, and Dae Bigach; one grandson, Chance McDerby; one great-grandson, Mason Dean Fowler; three sisters, Shirley I. and Marion Turner of Clinton, Sandra I. and Herman Burdette of Fountain Inn, and Gail I. and Freddie Whitman of Clinton; and a brother, Daniel R. and Jan Ivester of Clackamas, OR. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 27, 2010, at Boiling Springs First Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Dr. Hank Williams and the Rev. Butch King. The family will receive friends following the service in the Church Vestibule. Burial will be in Good Shepherd Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Roy Parker, Bobby Lindsey, Billy Jackson, Jerry Bridges, Jerry Horton, and Dennis Shropshire. Honorary Escort will be members of the Bill Howell Sunday School Class and dear gracious friends, Marvin and Zanene Smith. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Boiling Springs First Baptist Church Building Fund or Music Ministry, 3600 Boiling Springs Road, Boiling Springs, SC 29316. The family is at the home.
