Vernon Floyd Greene, 87, of Spartanburg, SC died Monday, May 10, 2021, at his home. Born November 5, 1933 in Spartanburg County, he was the son of the late Lois Adeline Roberts Green and Ben Green.
A U. S. Air Force Veteran who served during the Korean Conflict, Mr. Greene attended East Tennessee State and retired after 37 years of service with Norfolk-Southern Railway. He later worked part-time with Spartan Automotive-Carquest. Mr. Greene was a member of the former Green Street Baptist Church and current member of First Baptist Spartanburg.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth “Dottie” Deal Greene; children, Jeffrey Scott Greene of Spartanburg, SC, Angie Darlene Greene of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and Patrick Floyd Greene (Laurel) of Spartanburg, SC; grandchildren, Phillip of Los Angeles, CA, a’Lexia of Columbia, SC, and Mary Margaret of Spartanburg, SC; and brothers, Ronnie “Jack” Greene of Spartanburg, SC, and Carl “Butch” Stanley Greene of Gaffney, SC. He was predeceased by sisters, Iris Miller, Ann Lester, Betty Jean Caston, and Faye Pender; and brothers, Eugene Greene, and Ben Green Jr.
Graveside services will be held 4:00 PM Thursday, May 13, 2021, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307, conducted by The Rev. Thomas Moore and The Rev. Sal Barone. Visitation will follow at graveside.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Bridge at Green Street, 250 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306, of Spartanburg Regional Home Care and Hospice, PO Box 2624, Spartanburg, SC 29304.
