Vernon Philmur Dickens, Jr., 85, husband of the late Frances Everette Dickens, died Tuesday, September 10, 2024.
Phil was born on July 13, 1939 in Rocky Mount, NC to the late Vernon and Mary Brinkley Dickens. He attended North Carolina State University before moving to Winston Salem, NC to begin his career at R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company. After moving to South Carolina, he worked as a mechanical engineer retiring from Lockwood Greene Engineers and Piedmont Mechanical, Inc. He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church.
Phil is survived by his two daughters, Dawn D. Moody (Dennis) of Roebuck and Sabrina D. Mason (David) of Boiling Springs; and a granddaughter, Ashley M. Lemmons (Josh) of Greer; his grand dog, Beau, who never left his side during his illness; and his companion Judy Twining.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel located at 2075 E. Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302, services will be officiated by Pastor Bryon McIntyre and Pastor Terry Duvall. An honorary escort to Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Heritage Chapel Mausoleum will be lead by classic cars/street rods. All classic cars/street rods are welcome to participate. The family will receive friends at the conclusion.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Macedonia Baptist Church Building Fund located at 216 Macedonia Road; Gaffney, South Carolina 29341.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff at Spartanburg Regional Pavilion 4 & 6, Restorative Care, and Spartanburg Regional Home Health.
