Vernice Bell

Vernice Whelchel Bell, 93, of Spartanburg, SC, died Monday, September 14, 2015, at Spartanburg Medical Center. Born May 13, 1922, in Cherokee County, SC, she was the daughter of the late Roland Whelchel, Sr. and Bertha Whiten Whelchel and the widow of Newton T. Bell. Mrs. Bell was a member of Beaumont United Methodist Church. She retired from Butte Knit after 10 years of service. Survivors include her brother, Eugene Whelchel (Donna) of Sparks, NV; 7 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a son, Stanley Bell; daughters, Minerva Anne Nucholls, Mary Colquitt, Charlotte Bell, Bertha Bell, and Shannon Bell; sisters, Elsie W. Broome, Afrie Gaffney, and Shirley McCravy; brothers, Roland Whelchel and Don Whelchel; and two grandchildren. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Wednesday, September 16, 2015, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Thursday, September 17, 2015, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, by the Rev. Darrel McNeil. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park, 1955 Cannons Campground Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307.
