Verna Sexton

Verna Ballard Sexton, 89, of Spartanburg, SC, passed away January 26, 2014. Born December 26, 1924, in Spartanburg, SC, she was a daughter of the late Hosea and Minnie Davis Ballard, and the widow of Carl Franklin Sexton, Sr. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Spartanburg and co-owner of Ballard Sales Co. for 60 years. A beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she is survived by a son, Carl Franklin Sexton, Jr.; daughter, Cheryl Sexton Lentz (Tom) of Mocksville, NC; grandsons, Charles Black and Samuel Black; granddaughter, Christy McCall (Kevin); great-grandsons, Keaton McCall, Kanah McCall, and Graham Nolen Black; great-granddaughter, Ava Grace Black; sister, Elizabeth Ballard Parris; and a number of nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, January 28, 2014, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Gene Lassiter. Visitation will follow the service at the graveside.
