Vern R. Lamp, 85, of Spartanburg, died Wednesday, September 21, 2011, at Hospice House of the Carolina Foothills in Landrum. Born August 3, 1926, in Winfred, SD, he was the son of the late George and Ella Kroeger Lamp. Mr. Lamp was a veteran of the U. S. Navy and U. S. Army. He graduated from the University of South Dakota Business School and attended Rensselaer Polytech Institute, Rensselaer, NY. His career began with the Peat Marwick & Mitchell Accounting firm. He became comptroller of Johnson, Drake & Piper Construction Company in New York City and ultimately joined William Barnet & Son in 1973, retiring in 1992 as Vice President Finance. Survivors include his wife, Jean Messina Lamp, of Spartanburg, formerly of Albany, NY; daughters, Kathryn Johanne Lamp and husband Steve Nelson of St. Paul, MN, and Deborah Jeanne Detmer of Spokane WA; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, Kurt Richard Lamp. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, September 26, 2011, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, conducted by Deacon Robert Mahaffey.
