Vera Sprouse

October 22, 1915 — November 9, 2013

Vera Mae West Sprouse, 98, died at her home on Saturday, November 9, 2013. Mrs. Sprouse was born in White Stone on October 22, 1915, and was the daughter of the late Baxter Boyd and Tweedie Hood West. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, Henry Gus Sprouse; two sisters, Evelyn W. White and Grace W. Hines; and one brother, Boyd Carlton West. She was a graduate of Pacolet High School in 1933, a lifelong member of White Stone United Methodist Church and served as pianist when needed for a number of years. She was a dedicated historian for her family and friends of the White Stone community and would often receive calls for information that everyone knew she kept. She had many, many handwritten composition books containing pertinent geographical historical, etc. data. She was a part-time employee at White Stone Post Office at one time and also caregiver to a number of children in White Stone. She is survived by her daughter, Jeanette "Jennie" S. Moore and husband Cecil Connor Moore; one beloved grandson, Jeffrey Connor Moore and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held 1:00-1:45 Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral Services will follow at 2:00 at the chapel, conducted by the Rev. Walt Ballenger, Rev. Thomas Hill and Rev. Sherry Wood. Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery, Riva Ridge Road, White Stone, SC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lebanon Cemetery Fund, c/o Jane Snapp, 1391 White Stone Road, Spartanburg, SC 29302 or to a charity of one's choice. Special thanks to all her friends and family for their love and support and especially to Brenda Prudhomme of Haughton, LA who so lovingly brightened her days with many cards and gifts over the years.
