Velva Cantrell

Velva Parris Cantrell, 95, of Spartanburg, formerly of Cowpens, died Sunday, June 3, 2012, at Valley Falls Terrace. Born June 15, 1916, in Flag Pond, TN, she was the widow of Lawrence Byrd Cantrell, and daughter of the late Joseph W. and Rosa Crain Parris. She was a seamstress and member of Central Baptist Church of Cowpens. Surviving are her children, Vernon L. Cantrell and wife Jeanie of Lawrenceburg, KY, Camelia Henderson and husband Gene of Cowpens, SC, Melvinia Anderson and husband Jim of Boiling Springs, SC, and Jerry W. Cantrell and wife Jennett of Rocky Mount, NC; grandchildren, Randall Cantrell, Suzan Cantrell, Teresa Perry, Karen Smith, Mark Anderson, Laura Anderson, Chris Anderson, and Emily Anderson; 14 great-grandchildren; and 9 great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by three grandchildren, Michael Henderson, Stephen Cantrell, and Terry Lynn Hickman; and two brothers, Harley Parris and Jessie Parris. Visitation will be 1:00-1:45 PM Thursday, June 7, 2012, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM, at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Joseph McGaha and Chaplain Vernon Thornhill. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central Baptist Church, 126 East Church Street, Cowpens, SC 29330; or Hospice Care of South Carolina, 110 Dillon Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29307. The family is at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Camelia and Gene Henderson, 717 South Green River Road, Cowpens, SC 29330.
