Velma T. Kirby, 91, of Pacolet, SC, died Friday, January 9, 2015. Born February 1, 1923 in Polk, NC, she was the daughter of the late John and Della Philbeck Turner. She was widowed by her husband, Roy S. "Tip" Kirby. She was a member of Pacolet United Methodist Church and was retired from Pacolet Manufacturing Co., as a weaver, after 30 years. Survivors include a son, Tommy Kirby, and his wife, Toni of Pacolet, SC; two grandchildren, Chris Kirby, and his wife, Nicole of Oakboro, NC, and Erin Johnson, and her husband, Eugene of Pacolet, SC; four great-grandchildren, Abigail Johnson of Pacolet, SC, Gracyn Kirby, Nate Kirby, and Aidan Kirby, all of Oakboro, NC. She was the last surviving member of her family. Visitation will be held 12:30-1:45 PM Monday, January 12, 2015 at Pacolet United Methodist Church. Services will follow at 2:00 PM in the church sanctuary, conducted by Pastor Julie Gibson. Burial will be in Pacolet First Baptist Church Cemetery.
