Ural Thomas Jenkins, 79, of Spartanburg, died Wednesday, April 17, 2024, after suffering a stroke in December and struggled to recover. He passed away quietly in his sleep at his home. He was born on March 30, 1945, in Columbus, NC a son of the late Elsie Jenkins Covington and stepson of Oscar Covington.
Ural was an avid slow-pitch softball player in his youth and was well known throughout the upstate and his favorite pastime was working on cars.
He was employed at Beaumont Mill and Ameritex Yarn Company and a member of Bethesda Baptist Church.
Surviving is his wife of 48 years, Elizabeth Elder Jenkins; daughter, Lisa Johnson; grandchildren, David Holden and Sarah Holden (Shane Yanez) great grandchildren, Evan Yanez and Hali Bradley; Four feline babies that he was truly dedicated to. He was predeceased by a son, Thomas David Jenkins, siblings, Joe Covington and Brenda Moore.
Visitation will be from 11:30 to 12:30 pm on Monday, April 22, 2024, at Bethesda Baptist Church, 799 Bethesda Road, Spartanburg, SC 29302. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 pm in the church conducted by the Rev. Larry Holland. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bethesda Baptist Church Building Fund.
