Tommy Hayes

April 8, 1947 — December 9, 2020

On December 9, 2020, Tom Hayes passed away peacefully at his home. Tom was the son of William and Tula Mae Jones Hayes and reared in Mayo, South Carolina. A graduate of Chesnee High School and Tom, proudly served in the United States Army. He was a loyal employee at Hoechst for over 40 years and was a lifelong learner who went to Spartanburg Community College after his retirement and completed a program in his spare time. Family was most important to Tom. He loved any gathering, to watch football, eat dinner, or just visit with family and friends. He was a kind, humble, honest, generous, wise, good man who loved his family most of all. He was an avid animal lover, golfer and South Carolina Gamecocks fan. Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Janice Baxley Hayes; daughters, Tara Hayes Cogdill (Chris), Stephanie Hayes Hovis (Pryor); sons, Corey (Nikki) and Ashley (Jane) Brown; grandchildren, whom he adored, Hayley and Owen Brown, Hayes High, Reece and Garrett Davis, Carter and Max Brown and Christian Wood. Also left to cherish fond memories are brothers, Pete (Sheila) Hayes, Billy (Susan) Hayes; sister, Sonja (Rick) Carlsen of Spartanburg and a host of nieces and nephews. Tom was predeceased by his parents; wife, Tess Hayes; sister, Rhonda Hayes, and granddaughter, Caroline Cogdill. A celebration of Tom's life will be held at 213 Weatherby Drive, Greenville, SC 29615 on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at 3:30 PM until and all are welcome. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Spartanburg Humane Society, 150 Dexter Rd., Spartanburg SC 29303.
