Tom (Ikey) H. Badger, Jr.

February 13, 1931 — December 4, 2024

Moore

Tom H. Badger, Jr. (Ikey) of Moore, South Carolina went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, joining his loving wife of 70 years, Hilda G. Badger.

Born February 13, 1931, to the late Tom H. Badger Sr. and Eula Brady Badger, Tom grew to adulthood in Greenville, SC. There he attended Parker High School where he played baseball – an interest that would carry on to his playing on his ship’s team while in the Navy and afterwards on many church softball teams. After Graduating high school in 1949, he joined the U.S. Navy, serving during the Korean conflict. Returning to Greenville after his service, he met his wife Hilda at a local square-dancing venue.

The Badgers moved to Spartanburg in 1963 with daughter Tina where Tom worked for ATT/Lucent technologies, retiring after 30 years. He was not one to stay idle and spent his retirement serving his church and community and enjoying his passion for playing golf.

Part of the Morningside Baptist Church congregation and member of the Royal Sunday School class, Tom enjoyed speaking to members as he ushered on Sunday mornings. He and Hilda worked in the church kitchen and nursery for many years.

One of Tom’s favorite charities was Mobile Meals. Beginning in 1987 he delivered meals until 2018, when at the age of 87 he decided to retire after 30 years of volunteering.

An avid golfer, Tom continued to play up to three rounds a week into his nineties. He was active in the Senior Golfers of South Carolina, and member and past president of the Inter-Club Seniors Golf Association. And as a point of pride, he managed to match his wife’s record of three holes-in-one.

Tom is survived by his daughter Tina Badger Tiernan and son-in-law Keith Tiernan of New Orleans, La. He was preceded in death by wife Hilda G Badger, sisters Doris Badger Reid and Sybil Ammons Edwards, and brothers Joe, Bill and Doug Ammons.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 pm to 3:45 pm and immediately after the service on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307.

The funeral service will begin at 4:00 pm, Thursday, December 12, 2024, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Service will be conducted by the Rev. Robert Mitchell.

A private burial will be held on Friday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Spartanburg Regional Foundation (Hospice) PO Box 2624 Spartanburg, SC 29304.
