Tia Palmisano-Davis

Tia Marie Palmisano-Davis of Spartanburg, SC died Thursday, December 18, 2014 at Spartanburg Medical Center. Born May 17, 1957, in Augusta, GA, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Nola Palmisano. Tia earned her BA from UNC-Greensboro and Master's Degrees from Converse College. She was a lifelong teacher and an inspiring guide and mentor to students and colleagues. She began as a teacher of the hearing impaired and taught math in public and private schools in North Carolina and Missouri before settling in Spartanburg, South Carolina in 1993. For the past eight years, she served as an Assistant Principal at Woodruff Middle School. She was a gracious hostess, masterful cook, and an accomplished quilter. Another of her passions was cohosting the Excel Summer Camp at Woodruff Middle School that allows student to recover academic credit and advance to the next grade level. Survivors include her loving husband of 33 years, G.R. Davis, Jr.; children Alicia Garner (Brandon), Alayna Davis, and Phillip Davis; sister, Theresa Grosso (Tom) and three brothers of Fayetteville, NC; and father and mother-in-law George and Hazel Davis, also of Fayetteville. A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday, December 21 at Wofford College Leonard Auditorium, 429 N. Church Street, Spartanburg, SC, by the Rev. Dr. Ron Robinson. Visitation will follow in Leonard Auditorium. Memorials may be given to PD EXCEL Summer Camp, Woodruff Middle School, 205 S. J. Workman Hwy, Woodruff, SC 29388. The family is at home.
