Thomas Joseph Thompson, 87, of Spartanburg, SC, died Thursday, August 3, 2017, at White Oak - North Grove. Born January 2, 1930, in Detroit, MI, he was the son of the late Thomas Francis and Kathleen Hickey Thompson. A United States Air Force Veteran, Mr. Thompson served during the Korean War. Following his military service, he was an electrical engineer and appointed Superintendent for the city of Detroit Public Lighting Commission, retiring after 35 years of service. Mr. Thompson was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. Survivors include his daughter, Kathleen Borowski (Tom) of Spartanburg, SC; son, Thomas P. Thompson (Kathy) of Grosse Pointe, MI; grandchildren, Sarah Parker (Bryan) of Spartanburg, SC, Ann Bartee (Clay) of Greer, SC, Marie Porter of Moore, SC, Thomas J. Borowski (Laura) of Spartanburg, SC, Lauren Jagger (John) and Meghan Thompson all of Grosse Pointe, MI; and great-grandchildren, Jack Parker, Madison Parker and Allie Parker all of Spartanburg, SC, Kaelyn Porter of Moore, SC, Jack Jagger, Kathryn Jagger, and Thomas Jagger all of Grosse Pointe, MI, Thomas Borowski and John Borowski both of Spartanburg, SC and William Bartee of Greer, SC. Rosary will be at 9:30 AM, with visitation following 10:00 - 10:45 AM Tuesday, August 8, 2017, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Historic Church, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM conducted by The Rev. David R. Whitman and The Rev. Mr. Robert L. Mahaffey. Burial will be Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church Building Fund, 161 N. Dean St., Spartanburg, SC 29302 or Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, 686 Jeff Davis Dr., Spartanburg, SC 29303. The family is at the home.
