Thomas Smith

Thomas Michael Smith, 71, of West Columbia, died Sunday, October 11, 2020, at Agape Care Hospice in Columbia, SC. Born October 13, 1948 in Spartanburg, he was a son of the late Herbert Thomas and Evelyn Nancy Smith. Mike was a former member of Calvary Baptist Church in Spartanburg and was a US Army veteran. A journalist, Mike previously worked for The Clemson Tiger, The Greenville News, The State, The Osceola Magazine, The Tullahoma News, the Sumter Daily Item, and the Atlanta Journal and Constitution. He enjoyed playing Bridge with his friends, traveling and was a member of the Sierra Club. Thomas is survived by his sister, Joyce Williams (Phillip) of Gaston, SC; a niece, Laura Anthony; a nephew, Sayge Hardin Anthony, IV (Rachel); and great-nephews, Ashram Clark, Liam and Lawson Anthony; and his great-niece, Lydia Anthony. Graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, October 16, 2020, at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC, conducted by the Rev. Dr. James C.
