Thomas J. Layton, Sr., 72, of Pauline, died Friday, May 13, 2011 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born November 22, 1938, in Greenville, SC, he was the son of the late Webb Herman and Keifer Thacker Layton. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Thomas was owner and operator of Layton Upholstery for 35-plus years. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army, graduate of Spartanburg High School, and attended Cecil's Business College. Mr. Layton was a member of First Baptist Church of Spartanburg and attended Tate Memorial Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Emma Marthers Layton; three sons, Leslie Scott Layton and wife Malibu of Roebuck, Thomas James Layton, Jr., and wife Sola of Pauline, and Christopher Michael Layton and wife Lindsey of Moore; and eight grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Webb H. Layton, Jr. Visitation will be 6:00-7:30 PM Saturday, May 14, 2011 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, May 15, 2011 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Dennis Tessnier. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
