Thomas Gowan

Thomas Richard Gowan, Husband, Daddy, Popa, Big Pop, went home to be with the Lord. A man who left a Godly legacy, he was born November 19, 1927, in Whitney, SC, to the late Lois Willard Gowan and William Thomas Gowan. He leaves behind his loving wife, Audrey, and his loving children, Judy Bowers (Jimmy), Cathy Black (Johnny), Patricia Ramsey (Keith), Doug McAbee (Jerri), and Vickey Cleary (Tim). He was loved by his 8 grandchildren, his 14 great-grandchildren, and his 8 great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Nancy Gowan, and two brothers, Eber Gowan and Ronald Gowan. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his first wife, Shirley Robinson Gowan, and two brothers, Jack Gowan and James Gowan. Mr. Gowan taught Sunday School well over 60 years and was still teaching at Lake Bowen Baptist Church. He loved to sing for his Lord and Savior and was an active choir member blessing many with his solos. He taught the Adult A-Men Sunday School Class whose members will serve as honorary escort. A U. S. Navy veteran of World War II, he retired from Atlantic Cost Life Insurance after 35 years of service. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday, May 29, 2014, at Floyd's Boiling Springs Chapel, 4161 Hwy 9 N, Boiling Springs, SC 29316. A graveside service with military rites by the SC State Guard Honors Team will be conducted at 2:00 PM Friday, May 30, 2014, in Good Shepherd Memorial Park, 4164 Boiling Springs Rd., Boiling Springs, SC 29316, by the Rev. Mark Williams. Pallbearers are Jimmy Bowers, Johnny Black, Keith Ramsey, Dayle Walker, Jason Godfrey, and Josh Bailey. The family will also conduct a memorial service celebrating the life of Mr. Gowan at 6:30 PM Sunday, June 1, 2014, at Lake Bowen Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to P.K.
