Dr. Thomas Teasley Galt, 86, of Spartanburg, SC passed away peacefully at 7:30 PM on October 26, 2013 at his home. Born in Spartanburg, SC on September 16, 1927, he was the son of the late Thomas Hutcherson and Happy Littleton Galt. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII, a lifelong active member of the Boy Scouts of America for over 65 years, where he was the recipient of the Silver Beaver award, and a member of Bethel Assembly of God. He worked for Southern Railroad to save money to attend Emory University in order to accomplish his dream of becoming an anesthesiologist. He did his residency in anesthesiology at the Medical University of South Carolina where he met his future wife. He practiced at Mary Black Hospital and Spartanburg General Hospital, which is now Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. He was a member of the American Medical Association and a member of Full Gospel Businessmen Fellowship. He was the consummate true Southern gentleman, a devoted husband and father and will be greatly missed by all. Surviving is his wife of 59 years, Jean Edwards Galt; daughter, Rosemary Galt; sons, Hutch Galt (Beth) of Charleston and Rusty Galt; three grandchildren, Megan Galt of Chesnee, Kyle Galt of Greenville, and Matthew Galt; many nieces and nephews; brother, Leland Galt of Port Charlotte, FL; and sister, LuLynn Galt Sexton of Newberry. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, October 29, 2013 in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307, conducted by the Rev. James Cencebaugh. Visitation will follow at the graveside.
