Theodore “Charles” Conrad, III, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, June 12, 2023. He was the son of Patricia “Patty” Blanton Conrad and the late Theodore Charles Conrad, Jr. of Spartanburg. He was the husband of his beloved wife, Susan Hines Conrad, with whom he celebrated 33 beautiful years of marriage on June 9.
Charles was born in Charlotte, NC on April 12, 1962. He was raised in Spartanburg, where he was proud to call home. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout and later passed along this love of the Boy Scouts to his son and grandson. He was a graduate of Spartanburg High School and a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of South Carolina Honors College. A fourth generation CPA, he loved serving the community as he worked alongside his father at the family-owned practice, Conrad & Company. He leaves behind many clients who he regarded as dear friends.
A voracious reader and history fanatic, Charles collected an extensive library of books and enjoyed sharing his knowledge with others. Charles was also an avid USC Gamecock fan and, no matter how the season was shaping up, spent many a Saturday with his family in Columbia cheering on his favorite team. Many other weekends were spent in his favorite city, Chicago, where he explored its rich history, enjoyed fabulous food, and loved attending Cubs games.
Charles had a giving heart toward many local and worldwide Christian ministries. A faithful member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Charles led a life of unwavering faith and shared that devotion with all he knew. He spent every morning in prayer with Susan, praying over family, friends, and loved ones.
Above all, Charles had an immense love for his family and the beautiful lives that he was able to see them create. He spent his last weeks of life on vacation in Ponte Vedra, FL, spending quality time with family and walking on his favorite beach.
In addition to his mother and his wife, Charles leaves behind his children: Stephen (Betsy) Conrad, Laura (Stephen) Brown, and Marianna Conrad and her fiancé Hayes Lanford; grandchildren, Jack and Tess Conrad; siblings, David (Catherine) Conrad and Natalie (Rev. James) Williams; brother-in-law Scott (Patti) Hines; nieces, Emily Conrad and Mary Grace Williams; and nephews, Jeff Hines and John Williams.
