Wife, mother, grandmother, and Southern cook, Thelma Louise Abernathy Sanders, 91, of Roebuck, SC, died Thursday, November 7, 2019, at White Oak at North Grove. Born July 18, 1928, in Spartanburg, she was the daughter of the late William Noah and Bessie Mae Abernathy and widow of Bruce E. Sanders Sr. She was a lifelong member of Canaan Baptist Church. Surviving are her daughter, Elaine S. Olson (Terry) of Pauline, SC; son, Bruce E. Sanders Jr. of Columbia, SC; grandson, Justin McCorkle (Lisa May) of Roebuck, SC; step-grandchildren, Brian Olson (Amber) of Spring Lake, NC and Chris Olson (Laura) of Spartanburg, SC; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and special niece, Eunice Gregg (Buddy) of Duncan, SC. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by four sisters and one brother. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Sunday, November 10, 2019, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Monday, November 11, 2019, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, by The Rev. Joel Gardner. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriner's Hospital for Children, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605; or Spartanburg Humane Society, 150 Dexter Road, Spartanburg, SC 29303.
