Thelma Hammett

Thelma King Hammett, 100, formerly of Spartanburg, died Saturday, September 5, 2009, at Golden Age Nursing Home. Born July 26, 1909, in Spartanburg County, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin T. and Maude Parris King. She attended Restoration Church. Survivors include a sister, Ruby Hand; three grand children, John W. Orvin, Clare M. Orvin, and Elisabeth J. Elrod; one great- granddaughter, Brooke E. Ayers; and a Godson, John Queen. She was predeceased by a daughter, Shirley H. Orvin; and three brothers, H. W. King, Doyle King, and William T. King. Cryptside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 8, 2009, at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Complex conducted by her niece, the Rev. Jan King.
