Thelma Catherine Vassey Coggins, 82, of Spartanburg, dedicated and beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, died Friday, December 14, 2012, at her home. Born July 15, 1930, in Chesnee, SC, she was the widow of Howard Alton Coggins and daughter of the late Boyd Nathan and Lonie Parris Vassey. She was a lifelong member of Zion Hill Baptist Church and a graduate of Cecil's Business College. Surviving are her daughter, Sylvia Norton and husband Jack of Taylors, SC; son, Michael Howard Coggins and wife Anna of Spartanburg, SC; grandchildren, Shea Shealy and husband Adam of Taylors, SC, Richard Kyle Coggins and Stephen Michael Coggins of Spartanburg, SC; great-grandchildren, Owen Harrison Shealy and Evan Alton Shealy of Taylors, SC; and sisters, Helen Collins of Spartanburg, SC, and Mavis Anderson of Winston Salem, NC. Visitation will be 1:00-2:30 PM Monday, December 17, 2012, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. A graveside service will follow at 3:00 PM, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Keith Davis. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Zion Hill Baptist Church, 2817 E. Main Street Ext., Spartanburg, SC 29307.
