Tessie Quinn

March 26, 1921 — August 24, 2015

Tessie Louise Thrift Quinn, 94, of Cowpens, SC, went home to be with her Lord on Monday, August 24, 2015, at White Oak Manor-Spartanburg. She was the widow of Isaac Quinn. They celebrated 70 years of marriage together. Born March 26, 1921, in Cherokee County, SC, she was the daughter of the late Lettie Thrift Miller and raised in the home of her late grandparents, Durham and Mary Ella Ramsey Thrift of Mayo, SC. Mrs. Quinn was a faithful and active member of Central Baptist Church where she faithfully served as a Sunday School teacher, VBS worker, choir and WMU member. She was a current member of the Friendship Sunday School Class. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She dearly loved to cook and was well known in the Cowpens and surrounding areas for her awesome cooking abilities. A graduate of Cowpens High School, she was also a member of the Cowpens Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary and former manager of the Cowpens Diner. Survivors include a daughter, Judy Cooley-Poteat (Jim) of Mayo, SC; a granddaughter raised in the home, Pam Quinn Johnson (Steve) of Cowpens, SC; two sons, T. Reid Quinn (Millicent) of Spartanburg, SC and Gary B. Quinn (Shirley) of Cowpens, SC; a sister, Jean Miller Boone (Olin) of Wadesboro, NC; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her mother, grandparents, and husband, she was predeceased by a son, Roy Wayne Quinn; a daughter, Jeanette Crow Allison; son-in-law, Jay Allison; a granddaughter, Sherri Marie Quinn; a grandson, Joel Wayne Quinn; two sisters, Louise Miller Crump and Faye Miller Kelly; three brothers, S.B. "Coot" Thrift, W.L. Miller, and Bobby Miller; a brother-in-law, Henry Crump; and a sister-in-law, Bobbie Barnett Thrift. Visitation will be 1:00-2:45 PM Wednesday, August 26, 2015, at Central Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM, at the church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Jason Metcalf and the Rev. Allen Blanton. Burial will be in Daniel Morgan Memorial Gardens, 175 Cemetery St., Cowpens, SC 29330. Memorials may be made to Central Baptist Church, 126 E. Church St., Cowpens, SC 29330. The family expresses thanks to the caregivers at White Oak Manor for their loving care. The family is at their respective homes.
