James Terry Slemons, 76, of Spartanburg, SC, died Monday, January 16, 2023, at his home. Born October 21, 1946, in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late Enoch James and Lucille Miller Slemons.
A U.S. Air Force and Air Force Reserves veteran, Mr. Slemons was retired from the U.S. Postal Service as Postmaster after serving 37 years and from FedEx after serving 13 years.
Terry was a member of St. John’s Masonic Lodge # 333 and a Hejaz Shriner. An avid golfer, he was a member of Three Pines Country Club. He was member of Selma Baptist Church of Woodruff where he served as a Deacon and chairman of the Deacons several times.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Sheila Morgan Slemons of the home; son, Kevin M. Slemons (Christy) of Moore, SC; daughters, Kimberly Slemons Clayton (Clay) of Green Creek, NC and Tracy Slemons Smith (Bryant) of Hampstead, NC; five grandchildren, Kristin, Ashley, Brian, Savannah, and Dylan; six great grandchildren; and his sister, Lynda S. Putnam of Greenville, SC. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by two sisters, Carolyn Hatfield and Patricia Dillard.
Visitation will be 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 21, 2023, at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. A Funeral service with Masonic rites will be at 11:00 a.m. at the chapel, conducted by The Rev. Fred Quidley. Burial with Military rites will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gibbs Cancer and Research Center, 380 Serpentine Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29303.
