Teresa Klim

November 15, 1926 — July 19, 2013

Mary Teresa Hughes Klim (Nana) died peacefully Friday, July 19, 2013, at Windsor House. Born November 15, 1926 in Spartanburg, SC, to Maynard Bryant and Teresa Scruggs Hughes, Teresa was predeceased by her husband, Joseph William Klim whom she married at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, December 27, 1948. Having graduated from Pine Street Elementary School, Spartanburg High School, Georgetown University near Washington DC, Converse College, and Francis Marion College, Teresa taught kindergarten at St. Paul the Apostle School, Pamplico Elementary in Pamplico, SC, and with her daughter, Mary, co-founded and co-directed Growing Years Preschool, Inc. in Spartanburg. A lifelong member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church and a founding member of Jesus, Our Risen Savior Catholic Church, she was a member of the bereavement committee, a church circle, and was involved in many functions within both churches including being a Eucharistic Minister. For many years Teresa prepared and served food every Thursday at the Soup Kitchen at the Second Presbyterian Church. Surviving are her six children, Mary Klim Poliakoff (Andy), Teresa Klim Ellis (Don), Joseph Anthony Klim (Paula), Patrick William Klim(Melissa, deceased), Michael Christopher Klim (Keli), Kristina Klim Holler (John); eleven grandchildren, Elizabeth Wilborn Rowell (Reed), Shannon Ellis Bowman (Aaron), Verna Kale (Steele), Mamie Kathryn Wilborn, Clayton Edward Kale, Matthew Thomas Ellis (Traci), Marianna Ellis, Teresa Michelle Anderson (Ryan), Christopher Martin Klim, John McCutchen Holler, and Patrick Hughes Holler; eight great-grandchildren, Anne Elise Ellis, Ian Matthew Ellis, Keaton William Rowell, BettyTeresa Nowlin, Gretchen Monroe Kale, Landon Hogan Rowell, Evan Alexander Bowman, and Julian Steele Nowlin; sisters, Margaret Hughes Gaffney and Barbara Hughes Bennett; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a brother, John Patrick Hughes. The family would like to thank the many loving and dedicated caregivers who have enhanced Teresa's life over the years including those at home, at Windsor House and Amedysis Hospice and anyone else who has brought joy to her life. Visitation will be 5:30-7:30PM Monday, July 22, 2013 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. A Celebratory Mass of Christian Burial will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 161 North Dean Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302 by the Rev. E. Christopher Latham. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens immediately following the service. Teresa's grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Memorials may be made to St. Paul the Apostle School, 161 North Dean Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302, The Catholic Church of Jesus Our Risen Savior Building Fund, 2575 Reidville Road, Spartanburg, SC 29301, or to the charity of one's choice.
