T. Louis Cox, 84, of Inman, died Monday, March 11, 2013 at Mary Black Memorial Hospital. Born January 22, 1929, in Spartanburg County, he was the son of the late Toy Louis Cox, Sr. and Edith Hawkins Cox. A veteran of the US Navy, where he served honorably on the USS Randolph and the USS Kearsarge, Mr. Cox served in the SC House of Representatives from 1966 - 1969, when he resigned to become the Public Defender for Spartanburg County. He attended Spartanburg Jr. College, was a graduate of Wofford College, attended Cumberland Law School and graduated from the USC Law School. Mr. Cox practiced law in SC for more than 50 years, and was honored to serve as president of the Bar Association. He was an avid golfer, a patient fisherman, a remarkable storyteller, and a life-long yellow dog Democrat. Survivors include his wife, Edith G. Cox; daughters, Deborah Cox Brannon, and Angel Cox and her husband Dwight von Kolnitz, all of Lyman; son, Chris S. Cox of Columbia; grandchildren, Christopher, Alyssa and Ashlyn Cox all of Spartanburg; along with special friends, Judy Crowe and her family, daughter Wendy, and son Shane, and their children. He was predeceased by a son, Robert "Bobby" Gardner; and sisters, Carolyn Proffitt and Nancy Cooper. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00PM Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. A celebration of life service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday, March 17, 2013, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Honorary escort will be the Spartanburg County Bar Association. In honor of his lifelong love of animals, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Spartanburg Humane Society, 150 Dexter Road, Spartanburg, SC 29303. The family is at their respective homes.
