Syble Hammett

Syble Barnwell Hammett, 85, of Moore, died Thursday, November 4, 2010 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born July 16, 1925 in Ware Shoals, SC, she was the daughter of the late Oscar H. and Hallie Crow Barnwell. She retired from the South Carolina Employment Security Commission and was a member of Liberty United Methodist Church, where she was a choir member and soloist, past president of the UMW and a Sunday School teacher. Survivors include her husband of 65 years, W. Charles Hammett, Sr.; a daughter, Linda Kiehl and husband Jerry of Inman; a son, W. C. Hammett, Jr. and wife Barbara of Frisco, TX; six grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by four sisters and three brothers. Visitation will be 1:45 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. on Saturday, November 6, 2010 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Clegg Taylor and the Rev. Brian Arant. Entombment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Heritage Chapel Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mobile Meals Service, P. O. Box 461, Spartanburg, SC 29304; or to Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, 686 Jeff Davis Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29303. The family is at the home.
