Suzanne Earnhardt Smith

September 22, 1930 — February 7, 2025

Spartanburg, SC

Suzanne Earnhardt Smith (Suzie), 94, of Spartanburg, SC died peacefully on Friday, February 7, 2025. Born on September 22, 1930, in High Point, NC, and was the only daughter of LeRoy and Maime Earnhardt.

After graduating from Converse College, she met the love of her life, Milt, while she was working as the Women’s Director at the YMCA. She and Milt were married for 64 years until his death in 2018. During those years she gave her life to God, her husband and to her children. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Spartanburg where she taught second and third grade Sunday School for 42 years. Suzie was best-friend, encourager, and fierce protector of her husband. And she was the most loving and caring mother of three sons. She often said she raised four boys…three sons and a husband.

Suzie’s interests were many and she “never let grass grow under her feet”. She loved to travel and had visited every continent, but you could also find her on the beach with her feet in the sand or relaxing on the dock at Lake Bowen. She was athletic and loved the outdoors. Suzie could roll in the grass with her grandchildren (and dogs) or host the finest dinner. She loved all animals, and she never met a dog she didn’t like. She greatly treasured the companionship of her Weimaraners, Spaniels and Labrador Retrievers, showing as much loyalty to them as they did to her.

Suzie was predeceased by her husband, Milton Alfred Smith, Sr. Survivors include Milton “Chip” A. Smith, Jr. (Laura) and their children, Sarah E. Smith, Milton A. Smith, III (Hannah), and Parrish E. Smith (Kelsey) and great-grandchildren Amelia Smith, Georgia Smith and Ellis Smith; William Douglas Smith (Alison) and their daughters, Cameron McIver Smith and Anna Douglas Smith; and Stuart Lee Smith (Stephanie) and their sons, Ellis Lee Smith and Matthew Stuart Smith.
