Susan Taylor

November 25, 1926 — November 30, 2021

Susan Covington Taylor, daughter of Esten Calhoun Taylor and Susan (Sue) Covington Taylor. She was born in Spartanburg where she lived her whole life. She was a graduate of Spartanburg High School, attended Limestone College and UNC-Greensboro.

Susan’s first job was with DuPre’s Book Store. After a number of years there, she found her true calling by teaching special needs children for 20 years at a school on Pine Street which later became the Charles Lea Center. She was devoted to the many students attending through the years. She and her dear friend Flo Erickson had a Girl Scout Troop for over 20 years for mentally challenged girls. She also enjoyed working with the summer camp program at Charles Lea.

She later enjoyed an interval at the old Spartanburg Arts Center on Spring Street, a job she held for 14 years.  A person of many interests, she loved writing and reading poetry, essays, and short stories. She loved watching the changing of seasons and the variety of human faces. She loved books and was a storyteller for many years at a local nursing facility. She was a longtime member of the Episcopal Church of the Advent.

She is survived by her special friend, Susan Dodge.
