Sullie Powell

Sullie Stribling Powell, 97, of Spartanburg, SC, died Tuesday, January 24, 2017, at Windsor House West-Spartanburg. Born April 7, 1919, in Spartanburg County, SC, she was the daughter of the late Sullivan L. and Laura Summer Stribling and widow of the Rev. Elton O. Powell. Before moving to Windsor House, Mrs. Powell was the oldest active member of Beaumont Baptist Church where she loved to attend and was a former Sunday School teacher. She was a seamstress, she loved gardening, and flowers. Survivors include her children, William S. Powell, MD (Gail) of Spartanburg, SC, Elaine Powell of San Diego, CA; son-in-law, Ken Tisdale of Hanford, CA; 5 grandchildren, William Bryan Powell (Audra) and Eric Preston Powell (Annie) all of Beaufort, SC, Amanda Powell Peusor of Spartanburg, SC, Stacy Hartman (George) of Tulare, CA and Kelly Cooper (Darrin) of Visalia, CA; 16 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, Lynn Powell Tisdale; sister, Laura Catherine Thomason, and brothers, Marion Thomas "MT" Stribling, Albert Hill Stribling, and Everett Eudell "Bud" Stribling. Visitation will be 9:30-10:30 AM Saturday, January 28, 2017, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307, by the Rev. John Cox and the Rev. Rupert E. Guest.
