Stella Braziel

June 24, 1923 — August 1, 2010

Stella Lemons Braziel, 87, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's, peacefully closed her eyes for the last time in this world on Sunday, August 1, 2010 and opened them to see the face of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Born June 24, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Lotton Ezell Lemons and Mattie Mae Dickerson Lemons. She was an active member of Westside Baptist Church where she was a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class and served as class president and group leader until her health declined. Stella worked at several places through the years, but loved the second part of her life being a homemaker and spending time with family and friends that she loved unconditionally. She lived life in a simple uncomplicated way, always finding the good in everyone she met. Her biggest goal in life was that she knew and loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Her boundless love for God and her family and friends were the essence of her being and the loving legacy she leaves behind. Left to cherish her memories are two children, a daughter, Gayle Petty of Spartanburg; a son, Bryant Elliott and wife Sandy of Spartanburg; five grandchildren, Debra Caldwell Spencer and husband Dean of Spartanburg, Dana Thomas Hambright and husband Bobby of Pacolet, Cindy Elliott Collins and husband Scott of Spartanburg, Chris Elliott and wife Sabrina of Virginia Beach, VA, and Chad Elliott and financé Amanda Gentry of Spartanburg; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Herbert Elliott and her second husband, J. W. "Jay" Braziel, and her brother, Ralph Henry Lemons. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will immediately follow at 2:00 PM in the Chapel, with the Rev. Carrol W. Caldwell officiating. Entombment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Complex. Pallbearers will be Dean Spencer, Scott Collins, Chad Elliott, Adam Spencer, Jon Howard, and Joey Greene. In lieu of flowers, memorials in remembrance of Stella, may be made to Heartland Hospice Service, 421 Southeast Main Street, Suite 100, Simpsonville, SC 29681; or to Alzheimer's Association, 901 South Pine Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
