Sophie Shoaf

Sophie Darwin Shoaf, 75, of Spartanburg, SC, died Sunday, February 12, 2023 at Spartanburg Medical Center. Born September 23, 1947 in Columbia, SC, she was the daughter of the late James Martin Darwin and Ruby Benson Rector.

A 1966 graduate of Spartanburg High School, Sophie was thrilled to move back to her beloved Spartanburg after living in Florida for 20 years. She was active in many SHS alumni activities upon her return and was a diehard University of South Carolina Gamecock fan.

Sophie was a longtime employee of cable television industry in Spartanburg and Florida. She was of the Lutheran faith.

Survivors include her husband of 34 years, H. Clinton “Clint” Shoaf, Jr. of the home; her daughters, Amelia Elizabeth Davison (Geoffrey) of Nixon, MO and Victoria Patricia Ann Darwin of Spartanburg, SC; four grandchildren, Philip, Reed, Emily and Cole; and her sister, Patricia Fussell of Warner-Robbins, GA. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by a grandson, Jackson Turpin and her siblings, Bill “Chip” Darwin and James “Jimmy” Darwin.

Memorial service will be 5:00 p.m. Sunday, February 19, 2023 at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307, conducted by The Rev. Dr. James C. Hilton.
