Sophie Cantrell

Sophie Ann Petty Cantrell, 78, of Spartanburg, SC, died Thursday, May 15, 2014 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills-Landrum. Born September 3, 1935, in the Cedar Springs community of Spartanburg County, SC, she was the daughter of the late Poole J. and Ruth Locklier Petty. Sophie was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, formerly active as a Mobile Meals volunteer, and retired from banking. Among survivors are her sons, Phillip David Cantrell of Tatarstan, and Jeffrey Scott Cantrell of Chatham, MA; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Duke Cantrell and Edmund Wyatt Cantrell; a sister, Marjorie Mileham of West Palm Beach, FL; former husband, Melvin Cantrell of Spartanburg, SC; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by sisters, Juanita Petty Barnes and Betty Jean Petty Hayes. Visitation will be 3:00-3:45 PM Sunday, May 18, 2014, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. A memorial service will follow at 4:00 PM, at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Danny Cannon.
