Shirley Hoyle Tate, 87, of Boiling Springs, SC, died Monday, November 21, 2022 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born December 3, 1934 in Cleveland County, NC, she was the daughter of Jack David and Flavie Britton Hoyle and grew up in the Lawndale/Polkville area.
Shirley and her late husband, Jimmie C. Tate spent most of their married life in Spartanburg, SC. She was a former employee of Indian Head Mills and the U. S. Postal Service where she worked as a clerk for 14 years and one year as supervisor at the Spartanburg Main Post Office and retired after nine years at the Una Post Office as Postmaster. She was a member of Peach Valley Baptist Church.
Survivors include her sons, David Tate and Duane Tate, both of Spartanburg, SC; six grandchildren, Jimmie Tate, II, Breanna Tate, Alec Tate, Abigail Tate, Matthew Russell, and Emily Cantrell; her sisters, Ruby H. Hoyle and Doris H. Lowery. She was predeceased by her sister, Janice H. Lee (Carme Lee) and her brothers-in-law, Everette Hoyle and Hollis Lowery.
Visitation will be 1:00 – 1:45 pm Saturday, November 26, 2022 at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral service will be at 2:00 pm at the chapel, conducted by The Rev. James C. Hilton. Entombment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Heritage Chapel Mausoleum, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
