Shirley Jean Montgomery Brindle Rochester, 88, of Bristol, TN and a longtime resident of Spartanburg, SC and Clover, SC, passed away on Friday, March 21, 2025, at Dominion Senior Living of Bristol, TN. Shirley was born on March 14, 1937, in York, SC, a daughter of the late Luther Montgomery and Mildred Louise Cullender Gryder.
Shirley attended Queens Business College in Charlotte, NC and retired from the Spartanburg County Treasurer’s Office. She was a lifelong Baptist.
Surviving are her daughters, Cyndi Rochester (Rick) of Pacolet, SC and Cathy B. Phillips (Jimmy) of Bristol, TN; her step-daughters, Sandra R. Morgan (Philip) and Patsy R. Martin, both of Spartanburg and Wanda R. Baty (Randy) of Pacolet; her son-in-law, Steve Bennett of Spartanburg; her brother, James Montgomery (Dianne) of Charlotte, NC; her sister-in-law, Elaine Montgomery of York, SC; her 20 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Along with her parents, Shirley was predeceased by her first husband, Jesse Roy Brindle; her second husband, James E. Rochester; her step-daughter, Glenda Bennett; a son-in-law, Mike Martin; two brothers, Wylie Montgomery and Donald Long; and 2 grandchildren.
A funeral service to honor Shirley’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 27, 2025, at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307, conducted by the Rev. Randy Burgess. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
