Shirley Poteat

Shirley Marian Belcher Poteat, 81, of Inman, died Thursday, August 23, 2012, at her home. Born July 20, 1931, in Spartanburg County, she was the widow of Marvin Claude Poteat, and daughter of the late Posey and Eleanor Brown Belcher. Mrs. Poteat was a member of Lake Cooley Baptist Church and was formerly employed in the Media Center at Dorman High School. Surviving are her daughter, Connie Marian Poteat of Inman, SC; sons, Marvin Claude Poteat Jr. and wife Darlene of Spartanburg, SC, and Michael Posey Poteat and wife Penny of Inman, SC; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a brother, Rev. Posey Belcher of Rock Hill, SC. She was predeceased by brothers, Allen Belcher and Donald Belcher. Graveside visitation will be 6:00-6:45 PM Friday, August 24, 2012, in First Baptist North Spartanburg Cemetery. A graveside service will follow at 7:00 PM, conducted by the Rev. Mark Cannon.
