Shirley Phillips

Shirley Thrift Phillips, 81, of Cowpens, SC, died Sunday, November 26, 2017 at her home. Born April 18, 1936, in Spartanburg, SC, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Lillie Mae Millwood Thrift and the widow of Hubert "Hugh" Edward Phillips. Shirley loved her grandchildren and also enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens. She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church and former pre-school Sunday School teacher for 40 years. She retired from Pentex Mill after 34 years of service. Survivors include her children, Sheila Wilkie (Lynn) and Eddie Phillips (Pam); grandchildren, April Wilkie, Michayla Dean, Zachary Phillips, Savannah Phillips, Luchas Phillips, Lily Phillips, and Olivia Phillips, all of Cowpens, SC; sister, Lucy Mills of Gaffney, SC; and brother, Joe Thrift of Cowpens, SC. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by siblings, Charles Thrift, Walter Thrift, and Hazel Thrift Lamb. Visitation will be 6:00 - 8:00 PM Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM Wednesday, November 29, 2017, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, by The Rev. Dr. Terry Duvall. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Macedonia Volunteer Fire Department, 337 Macedonia Road, Gaffney, SC 29341; or Macedonia Baptist Church Building Fund, 216 Macedonia Road, Gaffney, SC 29341.
