Shirley Westbrook Gowan

Shirley Westbrook Gowan, 90, went home to be with the Lord, Saturday March 1, 2025, at Wesley Court Assisted Living Community in Boiling Springs, SC. Born April 15, 1934, she was the daughter of Frank Westbrook and Alda Honeycutt Westbrook.

She was a graduate of Cowpens High School and worked from time to time in manufacturing and retailing in the Spartanburg area. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. Throughout her life, her primary occupation was as a devoted and loving homemaker and mother.  

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Alvin Paul Gowan, her daughter Wanda Gowan Easler (Dennis), her sister Mary W. Wood (Burles), and brother James H. Westbrook, Sr. (Dorothy). 

Surviving are three grand-daughters, Angela Easler of Boiling Springs, SC; Jessica Swartz (David) of Sydney, Australia, and Laura Mineo (Tyler) of Chattanooga, TN; Seven great-grandchildren, Marek, Maddox, and Veda Romano of Davidson, NC; Vera and Ellis Swartz of Sydney, Australia; Emory and Elan Mineo of Chattanooga TN; Nieces and nephews, Allain Wood (Rhonda), Rick Wood, Teri Miller (Brian), James H. Westbrook, Jr. (Sabrina), Frank R. Westbrook (Angie), and Krystal W. Poole (Howie). 

The family will receive friends from 11:30 AM until 12:45 PM, Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Floyds Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St, Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM in the chapel, with burial to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Services will be conducted by the Rev. David Turner.
