Shirley H. Allen, 81, of Moore, SC, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 6, 2021 at her home, with her sons by her side. Born July 19, 1939 in Manchester, GA, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. T.K. Hinkle and the widow of Arthur Charles Allen, Jr. Mrs. Allen was a 1958 graduate of Manchester High School in Manchester, GA, then attended Spartanburg Methodist College. She retired from USC Upstate in 2001 after 22 years of service as an Assistant to the Athletic Director. Shirley was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church. She loved sports and was a past member for over 30 years at the Three Pines Country Club, where she spent many years playing golf. During her years of golfing, she recorded four holes in one, and was the Woman's Club Champion in 1993. She was also on a team that won the SC Oldsmobile Scramble Tournament, and the team went to the Nationals at the Grand Cyprus Resort in Orlando, Florida in 1989. An avid bowler, she bowled for years at Paradise Lanes in several leagues and served as the secretary to three leagues. During her years bowling, she won two SC Senior State Women's Tournaments and represented South Carolina in the Nationals in Reno, NV. Shirley also volunteered at the Spartanburg Regional Hospital for several years, and Meals on Wheels. Shirley loved her family, grandchildren, her dog Abbie, and her girlfriends. Shirley was a blessed and devoted Mother of three sons, David Griffith (Angela) of Aiken, SC, Greg Griffith (Nancy) of Mauldin, SC, and Lee Griffith (Sherri) of Spartanburg, SC, eight grandchildren, Tyler, Austin, Alyssa, Welby, Stokes, Owen, Ethan, Joshua, and great granddaughter, Cora Griffith and one great grandson, Grayson Holcomb, five stepchildren, Nancy White (Dudley) of Fort Smith, AR, Susan Allen of Hendersonville, NC, Kathy Mason (Ken) of Prosperity, SC, Bobby Allen (Cindy) of Greer, SC and Barbara Norrington (Chip) of Raleigh, NC, six step-grandchildren, 14 step great grandchildren, and her brother, Paul Hinkle (Betty) of Sunnyside, GA. She was also preceded in death by a step grandchild, brothers, Frank Hinkle and Eugene Hinkle. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Comfort Keepers, Spartanburg Regional Hospice, and to Shirley's nieces, Barbara Clow and Linda Taylor for their loving care. Visitation will be 10:00 - 10:45 AM Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. A funeral service will be 11:00 AM at the chapel, conducted by The Rev. Jim Oliver. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
