Shirley "Gigi" Hicks Adams, 80, of Spartanburg, SC, wife of Rev. William "Bill" C. Adams, went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 28, 2015, at Pelham Medical Center. Born in Kings Mountain, NC, she was the daughter of the late Joseph G. and Minnie Ware Hicks. She was a devout Christian, devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who always put God first in her life. Mrs. Adams was a member of First Baptist Church of Spartanburg and the Joy Sunday School Class. She taught the Deborah Sunday School Class, was active in Young at Heart, and helped with the singles ministry. She was a graduate of Old Fort High School, where she received the Best All-Around Citizen Award, Mars Hill College, and Limestone College. She attended Southern Baptist Seminary and began a 20-year elementary teaching career near Greenville, SC. She and her husband began their ministry in 1960 at Atlantic Baptist Church in Atlantic, NC (Outer Banks). They later served at Jersey Baptist Church in Lexington, NC, Pisgah Forest Baptist Church in Brevard, NC, Gilead Baptist Church in Jonesville, SC and Northbrook Baptist Church in Spartanburg, SC. They then continued their ministry at First Baptist Church in Spartanburg. Mrs. Adams loved reading and writing poetry and often wrote loving and cherished poems for her friends and family members. She was honored to have several of her poems published during her lifetime. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sons, C. Dan Adams and wife Tammy of Travelers Rest, SC and John Mark Adams of Spartanburg, SC; daughters, Rebecca Adams of Spartanburg, SC and Rachael Warner of Fresno, CA; granddaughters, Carey Adams of Greenville, SC and Abby Adams of Spartanburg, SC, Monica Bennett and her husband Sgt. Chris Bennett of Lancaster, OH, and Summer Derry of Destin, FL; grandson, Jake Warner of Fresno, CA; a sister, Melba Hicks Hemmings of Winston-Salem, NC; a brother, Jack Hicks of Naples, FL; and her very special caregiver, Rebecca Adams. She was predeceased by sisters, Nina Hicks Parks, Lillian Hicks Dwyer, Margaretta Hicks Blanton, Rebecca Hicks Stewart, Verna Hicks Pressley, and Mary Ruth Hicks Allison; and brothers, Rev. John Hicks, Charles Hicks, Herb Hicks, and Robert Hicks. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday, October 1, 2015, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Friday, October 2, 2015, at First Baptist Church of Spartanburg, 250 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29306, by the Rev. Dr. Donald J. Wilton and the Rev. Dr. Alastair C. Walker. Graveside services in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307, will be conducted by the Rev. Dr. Donald J. Wilton and the Rev. Sal Barone. Honorary escort will be the Joy Sunday School Class and Mrs. Adams' nurses. She had a special team of nurses that provided her with around-the-clock compassionate and steadfast care.
