Shirlee Sands

Shirlee Knowles Sands, 63, of Spartanburg, SC, died Thursday, March 30, 2017, at Spartanburg Medical Center. Born August 20, 1953, in Lanett, AL, she was the daughter of the late William Arnold "Billy Joe" and Shirlene Kent Knowles. Mrs. Sands attended Auburn University and was very active in PTA in District 6 and the Upstate Region. She was the founder and longtime member of the Bama Belles African Violet Club as well as a lifetime certified judge and award winner. Survivors include her husband of 43 years, Donald E. Sands; children, Donny Sands of Boiling Springs, SC, Stephanie Smith (Jonathan) of Spartanburg, SC, and Jeremy Sands of Travelers Rest, SC; and four grandchildren, Hannah L. Smith, Austin W. Smith, Lexi Sands, and William "Will-B" Sands. A graveside service will be conducted at 4:00 PM Monday, April 3, 2017, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307, by the Rev. Andy Case. Visitation will follow at the graveside.
