Sherrill O'Shields

Sherrill Smith O'Shields, 79, of Spartanburg, SC, went to heaven on Tuesday, October 23, 2012, at Savannah Memorial Health Center. Born October 20, 1933, in the Friendship Community of Pauline, SC, she was the daughter of the late M. Dupree and Lillie Jones Smith. Sherrill was formerly employed with Spartanburg School District 3 with over 17 years of service and retired from the Spartanburg County Sheriff Department Criminal Investigation Division after 10 years of service. She was Division Award Winner for Meritorious Service for Investigation and Administration in 1991 and 1993 for the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office. This was in recognition for exemplary conduct, achievement, and professionalism in the performance of duty. As a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Pauline she sang in the choir and was a member of the Martha Sunday School Class. She also attended Union College in Barbourville, KY. Surviving is her sister, Flora S. Morrow of Spartanburg, SC. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Thelma S. O'Shields and Hazel S. Goodwin; and two brothers, John D. Smith and Kenneth Ray Smith Visitation will be 1:00-1:45 PM Friday, October 26, 2012, at Friendship Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM, at the church, conducted by the Rev. Brian P. Harris. Burial will be in Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers are Richard Morrow, Legrand Morrow, David O'Shields, Phillip Smith, Jeffery Goodwin, and Dennis Goodwin. Honorary escorts are Butch Rhodes, Harold Graham, Jerry Howard, Randy Smith, Darren Morrow, Michael Turner, David Swentor, Bob Hoover, and Smith Goodwin.
