Sarah "Tommie" Pinson Smith, 87, of Boiling Springs, died Thursday, July 23, 2009, at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born May 15, 1922, in Union County, SC, she was the daughter of the late Eber and Eula Garrison Pinson and the wife of 57 years to the late Walter Preston Smith. She was a retired switchboard operator, having worked with Southern Bell, Duke Power, and Spartanburg General Hospital. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church and a U.S. Air Force Veteran. Survivors include two daughters, Judy Cooke Phillips and her husband Gary of Boiling Springs, and Rev. Sandra King and her husband Rev. Steven King of Rock Hill; two granddaughters, Jenny Cooke, and Lisa King Overbay and her husband Michael; and one great-granddaughter, Kendall. She was predeceased by a son-in-law, Joe Cooke; and nine brothers and sisters. Visitation will be 3:00-3:45 p.m. Sunday, July 26, 2009, in the Church Parlor of Bethel United Methodist Church. Funeral services will follow at 4:00 p.m. at the Church conducted by the Rev. David E. Nichols, the Rev. David B. Smith, and the Rev. Steven M. King. Burial with military rites will be in Good Shepherd Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church, 245 South Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306; or to the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, 686 Jeff Davis Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29303. The family is at the home of Michael and Lisa Overbay, 913 Wentworth Drive, Spartanburg.
