Sarah Lee Hughes Lake, 96, of Spartanburg, SC and longtime resident of Duncan, died Thursday, August 14, 2014, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born September 17, 1917 in Spartanburg, she was the daughter of the late William and Mae Hughes and widow of Edwin Schroder Lake. Mrs. Lake was a retired public school teacher at D. R. Hill Middle School with 32 years in public education. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church where she was a member of the Circle. Survivors include her grandchildren, Jonathan Dean Lake of Spartanburg, SC and Julia Renee Smith of Taylors, SC; great grandchildren, Jonathan Lake II, Brittany Lake, Adam Lake, Justin Sims, Christopher Smith, and Layla Rickard; great-great grandchildren, Rowan Victoria Lake and Hayden Sims. She was predeceased by a daughter, Julia Lake Carter and granddaughter, Caroline Lake. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, August 18, 2014, at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307, conducted by Rev. Emily Edenfield. Visitation will follow the service at the graveside. Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church Parish Life Center, 415 South Pine St., Spartanburg, SC 29302. The family is at the home.
