Sara Wheatley

Sara Sims Wheatley, 96, of Spartanburg, SC, died Tuesday, December 20, 2016, at White Oak Manor-Spartanburg. Born May 11, 1920, in Spartanburg, she was the daughter, and last surviving child, of the late Thomas Henry and Della Goforth Sims and widow of William Randolph Wheatley. A 1938 graduate of Fairforest High School, Mrs. Wheatley was retired from Mayfair Mills. She was a member of Fairforest Church of God where for many years she was the Ladies Sunday School teacher. Survivors include her daughter, Randi Wheatley McCoy (Bruce) of Inman, SC; granddaughters, Laura Sara McCoy Moore (Ben) of Spartanburg, SC and Carmen Leanne McCoy Avinger (Frank) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; and great-grandchildren, Sara Wheatley, Malone, Hadassah, and Hazel Mae Moore, Alex, McKay, and Anna Sims Avinger. Visitation will be 10:00-10:45 AM Thursday, December 22, 2016, at Fairforest Church of God, 2662 Fairforest-Clevedale Rd., Fairforest, SC 29336. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM, at the church, conducted by the Rev. John H. Petty III. Burial will be in Westwood Memorial Gardens, 6101 Reidville Rd., Moore, SC 29369.
